- Navigating by the Stars Above and Currents Below (You are here)
- Reading the Tides
- The Coral Reef Decision
Sea turtles possess an extraordinary gift: they navigate thousands of miles using both the stars above and the Earth’s magnetic fields below.
When you’re seeking clarity about your future, you need both types of navigation too.
The stars above? Those are the external markers, what success looks like to others, industry standards, societal expectations. They’re visible, measurable, easy to point to.
The currents below? That’s your internal intuition, the subtle pull towards what energises you, the quiet knowing about what feels right, the magnetic draw toward certain work or ways of being.
Many people navigate by stars alone and wonder why they end up somewhere that looks right but feels wrong.
True clarity comes when both align, when what you can see matches what you can feel.
What are your stars telling you? And more importantly, what currents are you sensing beneath the surface?
If you are feeling that maybe you aren’t completely on course, try this gentle process to realign your inner compass:
- Map your stars.
Write down the external markers guiding you right now, the achievements, roles, or expectations that define “success.” Notice which still feel meaningful, and which feel more like pressure. - Sense your currents.
Reflect on moments when you feel energised, in flow, or deeply at peace. What activities or environments create that feeling? What drains it? - Look for alignment.
Compare your stars and your currents. Where do they overlap? Where are they pulling in different directions? Even one small shift, saying no to something misaligned, or saying yes to something that excites you,can begin to realign your path. - Keep checking your course.
Take a few minutes each week to ask: Am I following stars that are truly mine? Do my inner currents still feel steady and alive?
